Course Information: Painting 1  (11914)

Required Materials:   Materials: Watercolor paper pad, tube paints and brushes Pencil, eraser, water container, white plate for palette
Technical Requirements:   We will evaluate finished drawings using the following rubric: Works demonstrate understanding of a variety of painting issues. Color theory and applied understanding of analogous and complementary color schemes Styles 1. Investigation of a Broad Range of Visual Concepts and Composition 2. Decision Making in Terms of Experimentation, Risk Taking or Both 3. Originality, Imagination, and Invention in Using the Elements and Principles of Design in Drawing Composition 4. Intention, Purpose, and Direction 5. Confident, Evocative Work That Engages the Viewer 6. Technical Competence and Skill with Drawing Materials and Media 7. Understanding the Use of Digital or Photographic Sources 8. Appropriation and the Student “Voice” 9. Overall Accomplishment and Quality In applying these descriptors, consider the content, style, mark making, and use of media in the work. Grades will be based on attendance, completion of all projects, participation, and competency in watercolor painting according to the above rubric. Final exam will consist of a portfolio review of work completed this semester.
